Genevieve MacKay is a working musician, writer, and arts administrator based in North
Vancouver, BC. She holds a B.A. in English Literature and an M.A. in Ancient Culture, Religion, and Ethnicity from UBC.
Genevieve plays viola, violin, and viola da gamba, and maintains an active concert schedule,
including performances with Players & Singers, Lions Gate Sinfonia, Vancouver Film Orchestra, Plastic Acid Orchestra, the Vandelé Quartet, Vancouver Viols, Early Music Vancouver Baroque Orchestra Mentorship Programme, and alabast, her solo project for viola and loop pedal, among many others. She has appeared as Artist in Residence at Place des Arts, and is the co-creator of Suspended Reverie, a recurring interdisciplinary arts and yoga event.
She is a passionate educator, teaching for Place des Arts, and directing the West Vancouver Youth Band’s Debut Strings program as well as teaching independently.
Genevieve’s poetry has been published in Room Magazine, Leaf Press’s “Monday’s Poem” series, inkscrawl, and Vallum Magazine, and has placed twice in Pandora’s Collective poetry contests. As an administrator, she has worked for Early Music Vancouver, the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts, and the Vancouver Cantata Singers.
