“Music, like all of culture, helps us to understand our environment, each other, and ourselves. Culture helps us to imagine a better future. Culture helps turn ‘them’ into ‘us.’ And these things have never been more important.” — Yo-Yo Ma
I maintain an active violin and viola studio in North Vancouver, working with students of all ages (from five to eighty-five). My foundational beliefs as an educator are that (1) music should be fun, and (2) everyone can learn.
In my opinion, it’s more fun to do things well, so I have high standards of musical excellence for my students, which I strive to approach from a place of positivity and encouragement.
Not in North Vancouver, or prefer to go through a school? Online lessons are an option, and I am also a faculty member at Place des Arts (Coquitlam) and the Serena Eades Academy of Music (various). If your young musician is looking for an ensemble, I lead the Debut Strings group as part of WVYB (West Vancouver Youth Band).
